General Information

The foundation for Religious Education at Our Savior is that faith is a dynamic relationship with God and His community.  It needs nourishment to grow. It is the goal of the Religious Education staff to offer opportunities for people of all ages and stages of faith development to grow in their relationship with God and His Church.

♦ For those seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church, the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) provides a process of weekly gatherings to study and reflect on the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.  For more information, contact Kathleen Day.

♦ For adults in our faith community, we offer a variety of formation experiences (weekly lectionary study,  parish library, retreats, video series and speakers).  Details appear regularly in the parish bulletin.  We are always open to input about these or other offerings.  For more information contact Kathleen Day at (251)633-6762 or by email.

♦ As a parish, we believe that it is the responsibility of the entire faith community to share our rich traditions and rituals with future generations.  This process of Catholic education and faith formation truly begins in the family.  Parents are the primary educators of their child in the way of faith and morals.  (National Catechetical Directory).  Our parish responsibility is to provide support and a formal structure to assist in that role.  Parents choose different options to accomplish the Catholic education of their children.  Some choose to enroll their child(ren) in Catholic Schools in the area where Religion is taught as part of the curriculum while others choose public education and attend a weekly Religious Education session.  Since “religion” is more than a cognitive experience, the parish expectation is that all families worship regularly, discuss faith issues at home, and give witness to faith by being involved actively in the parish community.

♦ Children in both settings celebrate the Sacraments within the parish.  Our staff offers strong preparation programs for First Eucharist, First Reconciliation and Confirmation.  As a foundation, we expect that children have been involved in formal religious instruction at least the year prior to this preparation.  We also recognize and affirm parents as an integral part of the process by inviting attendance at meetings and family prayer occasions.

♦  To assist families in their responsibility to pass on the teachings and traditions of their faith to children who attend public school, we offer a comprehensive program for children from preschool through 8th grade.  Sessions meet weekly from late September through early May on Sunday morning (9:45 and 10:45). Parents can help make this a better experience for their child(ren) by making attendance a priority, supporting the catechists, and discussing class material at home. For registration information, contact Kimberly Rooney

♦ Because life happens, a family may find itself in a special need for religious education.  We are certainly always ready to discuss options for Religious Education.  The most important issue is the child and their relationship with God.

♦ Our staff is here to serve you and support you in whatever way we can.  Please pray with and for us throughout the year.
